Core CGPA & GPA
Explore foundational GPA formulas, grade points and cumulative averages.
A resume should show the academic figure that appears on the official record, together with its scale, rather than a convenient percentage guessed from a multiplier. Write CGPA 8.24/10, University Name, programme and graduation year when your record uses a ten-point scale.
Use the credit-weighted calculator below to explore the figures associated with How to Report CGPA on a Resume. The education section can omit GPA when unnecessary, but it should not hide a different grading scale behind a four-point label.
Use the grade points your university assigns—not the letter grade or raw mark. Leave courses out if they do not count toward GPA under your regulations.
Enter each term's SGPA/GPA plus its total GPA-counted official credits . This assumes credit-weighted averaging is permitted by your university.
Assumes future courses add GPA-counted credits and earlier grades remain unchanged. Check exclusions, retake rules and rounding with your institution.

That weighting matters. A four-credit course can contribute twice as much to the total as a two-credit course. Simply adding all course grades and dividing by the number of subjects can therefore give the wrong result. For more detail, see How to Calculate CGPA with Different Credits and Credit Weighted GPA vs Simple Average.
SGPA normally measures a single semester. CGPA normally brings together eligible work across more than one semester. An overall CGPA should reflect the credit distribution of the semesters, unless the university explicitly uses another aggregation method. Read GPA vs SGPA or GPA vs CGPA for explanations of common terminology.
A realistic planning example should use numbers that fall inside the official grade-point range. A target above the scale maximum signals that the proposed future credits cannot produce the desired outcome under the stated assumptions. Consider different targets, additional eligible credits or an officially permitted grade-improvement route before revising the plan.

The calculator provides arithmetic assistance rather than an academic endorsement. A correct numerical result can still be inappropriate for a certificate if the wrong regulation, credit category or conversion formula was selected. Review all assumptions, then compare the output against the university portal and written grading policy.
For that reason, our CGPA to Percentage page explains the importance of the relevant university rule. You can also explore a CGPA to Percentage Chart, the Percentage to CGPA Calculator, and the comparison CGPA vs Percentage. Each conversion should be interpreted as a method subject to its own assumptions.
A familiar 9.5 multiplier has been used in some Indian school-reporting contexts. It is not a universal rule for university CGPA, and it should not be applied blindly to VTU, VIT, AKTU, KTU, Anna University or other institutions. Use the formula listed in your programme's applicable handbook instead. For background, see CBSE CGPA Conversion History and How to Convert CGPA to Percentage in India.
Similarly, multiplying a 10-point result by 0.4 is a mathematical rescaling, not necessarily an academically accepted credential evaluation. Grading distributions, course difficulty, assessment levels and formal evaluation methods differ. Read Indian CGPA vs US GPA before reporting converted figures for international study.

Replacing a low grade may or may not change previously earned credits and weighted grade points. Institutions can use different rules for repeated courses, academic backlogs and revaluation. Rather than assuming an old grade disappears, consult your regulations and see CGPA After Backlog Calculator or Retake GPA Calculator.

We use a general mathematical model, not an official university grading engine. Institution-specific rules can change across admission batches, regulations or degrees. In particular, pass/fail courses, retakes, academic forgiveness, incomplete grades, grade substitutions and exclusions can require different formulas. Visit Calculator Methodology, Accuracy Policy and Grading Policy Verification to understand what should be checked.
For academic decisions, rely on transcripts, department instructions and the formal guidelines issued for your programme. You can also consult the Sources and References and Fact Checking Policy pages for the site's source-review approach.
If a new transcript contains revised grades, recalculate using the current credited record rather than mixing old and new snapshots. Save the date of each calculation and label the source documents so a future reviewer can reproduce the process. Transparent record keeping matters more than displaying extra decimal places.
